Rock Lobster - Heliconia Rostrata
Heliconia species are amongst the most exotic of all tropical flowering plants. Native to Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. This is one of the most ornamental and cultivated species of Heliconia, the heliconia rostrata is a large evergreen perennial boasting huge, banana-like, dark green leaves. In spring and summer, showy flower clusters hang from the 90 -150cm stems.
This plant comes with a large selection of fun common names including, hanging Lobster claw, False bird of paradise, Crab claw, and Hanging parrot’s beak.
